Pilates Improves Flexibility, Builds Strength, and Develops Control and Endurance for the Entire Body

It puts an emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance.

Clinical Pilates is a Form of Exercise that Focuses on Posture, Core Strength for Stability, Balance, Control, Flexibility, and Breathing.

Clinical Pilates is often used in conjunction with physical therapy as a means for treating a variety of injuries, particularly back pain and women’s health issues such as osteoporosis & incontinence. Pilates focuses on the retraining and recruitment of these stabilizing muscles (core stability) as well as improving posture, strength, and flexibility. Clinical Pilates identifies these key issues by applying carefully selected pilates exercises to patients and making modifications for their impairments.

Benefits of Clinical Pilates for Osteoporosis:

  • Improved posture and core stability
  • Increased muscular strength and flexibility
  • Prevention of injuries
  • Restoration of normal movement patterns
  • Enhanced breathing control
  • Increased coordination and muscular control
  • Firmer and flatter stomach muscles
  • Improved overall body tone and fitness
  • Improved balance
OUR INSTRUCTORS

Licensed Physical Therapists Specializing in Women’s Health and Pilates-Based Rehabilitation

Our holistic approach to rehabilitation, along with the integration of the mind and body, provides a smooth transition from rehabilitation to lifelong health and wellness.

Our instructors have a variety of certifications including both a classical Pilates certification program with Romana’s Pilates (Some have even had the privilege of training with a first-generation Pilates instructor, Romana Kryzanowska, the world-renowned protégé of Joseph Pilates) and a comprehensive Pilates for rehabilitation certification program with Polestar Pilates.

There are 6 basic Pilates principles that need to be applied to all Pilates exercises to ensure the maximum benefits are achieved. These include:

  • Concentration: Focus on correct performance of each Pilates exercise and the specific muscles involved.

  • Centering: Focus on achieving a neutral spine and activating the core stabilizing muscles (pelvic floor and transversus abdominis) to support the lower back and pelvis.

  • Control: Maintain optimal posture and control in all movements.

  • Flowing Movement: Work smoothly and efficiently in all movements.

  • Precision: Perform each Pilates exercise with attention to detail to ensure correct technique.

  • Breathing: Maintain relaxed, normal breathing throughout all Pilates exercises. Do not hold your breath.
